Want to find the largest TV you can fit in your space—without running back and forth from the store making returns? We’ve got you covered. Find the perfect television for your home on the first try with our helpful tool following this quick, straightforward process.

Determine where you would like to place your new television—in an entertainment center or cabinet, above a fireplace mantel, on a television stand, or with a wall mount are the most popular options.

Measure the maximum width, height, and depth of the cabinet, entertainment system, fireplace mantel, or television stand where you’d like to install your television (in inches). If you’re using a wall mount, you’ll only need to measure the width and height of the space.

Input the correct measurements into each section for width, height, and depth after selecting the appropriate installation option using the tool below. Then, click the button that says, “Show TVs That Fit,” to populate the brands, styles, and types of televisions that will fit in your space.

Choose the television you like most from the selections and purchase it through our link. When your brand-new TV arrives, you already know it will fit perfectly in your space, so you can eliminate the time and hassles spent on trying to find the perfect TV.

Select where you plan to place your television from the options below, input the correct information to the right, and then click the “Show TVs That Fit” button to populate the brands, styles, and sizes of televisions that will fit perfectly in your space.

A few additional things to consider when entering your measurements:

If you are installing on a wall mount, give yourself an extra 1-2-inches, by taking 1-2 inches off of your max height. This will allow room for the TV to attach to the mount. If you take off 1 inch you will have ½ on the top and the bottom if you center it.

We also recommend using a tilt mount for these installations, because it allows you to tilt the TV out during installation, then push it flush after it’s installed.

If you are installing on a wall mount, deduct at least  ½  inch from your opening width. You don’t need as much extra space on the width as you do on the height, but you will need some.

If you give ½ inch, there will be ¼ inch on each side of the TV after it’s installed.

When you measure the opening, measure from multiple points and use the smallest measurement.

Many openings are not perfectly square, so it may be smaller or larger depending on where you measure from.

Because size matters! TV Fit Finder is a free easy to use tool that makes finding that perfect TV size super simple.

Most people want to get the largest TV possible, and most people don’t realize that a few inches on a TV can significantly increase the viewing area of a screen. Simple math would tell you that a 60-inch TV is 2 times larger than a 30-inch TV, right? This is wrong! A 60-inch TV is actually 4 times larger than a 30-inch TV, and this is why every inch matters.

How is that? Keep reading to find out.

TV Sizes Explained

The size of a television refers to its diagonal length expressed in inches—not its width or height.

For example, a 55-inch TV screen measures 55 inches diagonally across. However, the height or width of this television is not 55 inches—it actually has a width of 47.9 inches and a height of 27 inches.

How TV Companies Measure Televisions

Before listing dimensions, television manufacturers measure from the upper left-hand corner of the screen to the lower right-hand corner (or vice versa).

The measurement only includes the screen—the frame is not included. Once the manufacturer knows the television’s width, height, and aspect ratio (typically 16:9), they can determine the size of the TV screen.

Problems with Television Sizes

With such confusing measurements, it’s tricky to determine which televisions will fit in your spaceespecially before you have the TV in hand.

It’s impossible to accurately calculate the diagonal measurements of an entertainment center, television stand, or wall, which makes it challenging to determine which television to buy.
